INTERESTED IN BECOMING A REFEREE?
Coaches, Players, Parents, and Referees
It is that time of the year again. The Lee-Mt. Vernon Sports Club is sponsoring a referee training course for new USSF Grade 8 referees during the month of March. As usual, the soccer community is in need of new referees, both teenagers and adults, boys and girls, and men and women. Refereeing gives you the opportunity to get some sunshine, exercise and get paid for your work. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the game of soccer and develop an understanding of why calls are made (or Not) in World Cup games. Over the years we have had many families that worked together as referee teams. The club has several families where the parent and the teenagers referee games together and have a great time.
The course consists of 3 sessions/21 hours that will definitely increase your knowledge and understanding of the game as well as providing a service to the Club. The last scheduled date is a backup in the event that one of the other classes is affected by weather.
The course will be held in the meeting rooms at the Mt. Vernon Government Center, 2511 Parkers Lane, Alexandria, VA 22306. This is next to Mt. Vernon Hospital. The cost of the course is $65 which can be paid by credit card online. Registration is conducted online at http://www.vadcsoccerref.com/. Please note that registration is a two step process. After you complete initial registration with USSF, you have to wait 24 hours before you sign up for a course.
After you have registered for the course, please contact me, Lee Hingle, via email so that I can maintain a rough count of students and provide you with read ahead material which will give you a head start on the class. My email address is "email@example.com".
The LMVSA web site (www.lmvsc.org) will be updated with class information including the agenda. If you have questions, contact Lee Hingle at "firstname.lastname@example.org" or call at 703-799-0236. The dates and times are as follows:
Meeting dates and times:
March 9, Saturday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
March 10, Sunday, 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM
March 16, Saturday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
March 17, Sunday, 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM
These dates and times are driven by the availability of the meeting room at the Mt. Vernon Government Center.
There are drink and snack machines in the building, so you will need to bring $$ for them. You can bring lunch for Saturday and snacks if you like. You just have to make sure that you clean up after yourself.
After you have registered, contact Lee Hingle for an advance copy of the Laws of the Game so that the material covered on the first day can be read in advance.
Consider taking this opportunity to participate at a new level in this sport. Pass this information on to your teammates and friends, including adults. See you in class.
