U-16 Patriot Boys Win 2012 PWSI Icebreaker
It was an exciting weekend of soccer at the 2012 Prince William Icebreaker Tournament in Haymarket, VA., and it was a memorable one for the boys U-16 LMVSC Patriots Blue team. Coached by Bob Tuccillo and Jane Gallant, the team won the U-16 Boys White Division by defeating the NVSC Jr. Royals 95 Gold in the final 3-0. But before getting to the final the Patriots had to pull off an amazing comeback and win the semifinal against the LHFC Turf Sharks from Pennsylvania. This game proved much harder than the final as the lead went back and forth between the two teams. With just under two minutes left in the game the Patriots needed a goal to tie the game and send it into overtime. With hard work and some luck on the Patriots side that is exactly what happened as Fernando Olivares-Camacho scored his second goal of the game just before time ran out in the half. After two five minute overtimes the two teams went to a penalty-kick shootout to determine who would go on to the final and who would go home. The shootout rounds went this way --
The final against the NVSC Jr. Royals Gold 95 was a rematch with the Patriots from last year’s Icebreaker Tournament where the Royals came out on top 3-2 in the semifinal. The win also had a very special meaning as Coach Tuccillo’s mother passed away the day before the tournament. With grace and dignity the boys dedicated the win to Coach Tuccillo’s mother. It was a remarkable tournament for the Patriots and Coaches Tuccillo and Gallant.
